Nearly a week before the mighty United Federation of Teachers will announce its endorsement, one mayoral hopeful is seeking to throw its members a hefty bone.
In a conference call with reporters yesterday about slashing Department of Education waste, former Comptroller Bill Thompson called for redirecting saved funds to boost the shrinking Teacher’s Choice program — which reimburses educators for out-of-pocket classroom spending.
He said the current budget reduces annual teacher reimbursements to just $40.
Thompson’s solution would put the amount at a fixed sum of $200.
