Pension limit

Chrysler says it is freezing the pension of roughly 8,000 US salaried workers at the end of the year, saying it is doing so to stay in line with industry trends and to comply with IRS regulations.

Syria and oil

Concerns about a possible escalation in Syria’s civil war have pushed oil prices to their highest level since January. Oil went up $1.82 for the week, to $97.85 a barrel.

Bank mess

Saying Deutsche Bank has “no margin of error,” FDIC Vice Chairman Thomas Hoenig in an interview said of the bank, “I mean they’re horribly undercapitalized.”

Sears soars

Sears Canada enjoyed its biggest gain in more than a year after it raised $188 million from the sale of two Toronto-area stores to mall landlords. Shares rose 13.9 percent, or $1.31, to close at $10.76.
