Anna Wintour’s daughter Bee scores a gig at ‘Late Night’

Monday evening, Seth Meyers grabbed the spotlight with the premiere of his much anticipated “Late Night” show on NBC. But New York tastemakers are buzzing over his new segment producer, Katherine “Bee” Shaffer, who just happens to be Anna Wintour’s 26-year-old daughter.

The stunning Shaffer has remained (mostly) off the radar for years, despite hobnobbing with BFF Voguettes and frequently accompanying her mother to fashion shows and A-list fetes like the celeb-studded Met Gala.

But that’s all about to change. After a two-year stint in Los Angeles working for “Glee” executive producer Ryan Murphy, Shaffer returned to New York in October. She’s got a new Chelsea pad, a camera-ready boldface boyfriend — on-air entertainment reporter Ben Lyons — and a plum job at 30 Rock.

“NYC is a much better fit for her,” says Shaffer’s former boss, Ricky Van Veen, co-founder of CollegeHumor. She earned her first comedy stripes working as his assistant for two years after graduating from Columbia University in 2009.

“After a while in LA, she got tired of hearing about juice cleanses and Mercury being in retrograde,” he says.

Plus, as former Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley points out, Shaffer’s new gig with Meyers is “the perfect It girl New York kind of job and kind of life.”

Not that Shaffer’s in danger of becoming NYC’s next overphotographed PYT.

She’s more likely to be seen cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals at a local pub or staying in for an evening of “Scandal” than dancing on wobbly tabletops or parading around in this season’s latest Prada.

She’s reliable in a city where flightiness is fashionable.

“She’s so punctual,” says designer and friend Timo Weiland. “She and I were both 30 minutes early for a business dinner, and the rest of the crew was an hour and a half late.” (Her mum is known for being the first to arrive at fashion shows.)

An unabashed theater nerd (she and Wintour frequent Broadway together), Shaffer was never tempted by the glamour of the fashion industry, opting instead for a career in TV production.

(Shaffer refused to participate in this article because, a Vogue rep informed us, she didn’t want to distract from her new gig.)

She clearly has a smart sense of humor. Fashion’s first daughter even dared to poke fun at her mother (who is seldom photographed smiling) in an infamous Instagram photo last December that showed a slew of gifts tossed in the foyer of their family’s Mastic, LI, gated estate — with nary a Christmas tree in sight. Shaffer’s caption reads: “Mom threw out our tree before Christmas Day because ‘it was too messy.’ ”

Sure, Shaffer has an overflowing closet of designer duds and a reputation for her standout work wear. (Former CollegeHumor colleague Vincent Peone says working with Shaffer was “like having Grace Kelly visit the frat house.”)

But it’s her comedic wit that’s proving to be the budding TV producer’s best accessory.

“I just think Bee is one of those talents that can do whatever she wants. She’s so commanding, you can imagine that she will run something someday, no matter what,” says Ned Martel, former Men’s Vogue editor who now writes for “Glee” and worked with Shaffer for a year while she was in LA. He says Shaffer’s state of being perpetually “prepared” reminded him of working for her editrix mom.

And although Shaffer refrains from using her mother’s standing to further her own career, Wintour may be taking trend cues from her daughter. Shaffer’s new boss, Meyers, is profiled in next month’s Vogue (his wedding was also featured in the October 2013 issue), and former boss Murphy also got his own Vogue profile in September 2012, while Shaffer worked for the Hollywood heavyweight.

“This gilded cage has not made her a brat,” says Talley, who describes Wintour as “a Manolo Blahnik slingback” and Shaffer as a “Nicholas Kirkwood towering inferno custom platform on a stiletto-heel sandal.”

“She’s handled growing up in it in an extremely wonderful and balanced way,” he continues. “Bee’s going to conquer her dreams with this new Seth Meyers job.”

So sit back and enjoy the show.
