Cops save Verrazano Bridge jumper

A man threatening to take his life by jumping off the Verrazano Bridge was rescued by three Emergency Services officers on Monday.

The man stopped his Dodge Caravan on the Brooklyn bound side of the bridge around 10:00 a.m., put his hazard lights on, and climbed onto one of the support beams with the intent to jump, cops said.

The Emergency Services Squad responding to a 911 call suited up in harnesses and walked out on the ledge in an effort to save him.

The distraught man told responding officer Robert Reed that he was “upset that he could not find a job and provide for his family,” police sources said.

In a dramatic rescue video released by the NYPD, ESU Detectives Jeffery Loughery and Paul Fazio are seen reaching for the man when he wasn’t looking and grabbing his arm, before harnessing him and guiding him back to safe ground.

The man was treated at Staten Island University North Hospital.
