Jets WR Hill leaves game with possible concussion

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Jets wide receiving corps suffered two potentially significant injuries Sunday.

Stephen Hill suffered a head injury on the second play of the game and did not return. Santonio Holmes injured his hamstring in the fourth quarter and was unable to come back into the game.

The Jets wide receiving corps is thin to begin with. If the Jets lose their top two receivers for any significant amount of time, they are in deep, deep trouble.

Hill’s injury came on a crushing blow from Titans safety Michael Griffin that probably should have been a penalty for a helmet-to-helmet hit, but it was not called. The hit occurred on a Geno Smith interception. Hill was down on the field for a while before being helped off. The Jets did not announce whether it was a concussion.

Holmes had one catch for 25 yards before he came up injured midway through the fourth quarter. The Jets announced it was a hamstring injury, but did not provide any further information. Holmes suffered a Lisfranc injury to his left foot a year ago and just came back from that when this season started. He had a career-high 154 receiving yards last week against the Bills and looked like he might give Smith a nice target.

The Jets started Darrin Walls at cornerback in rookie Dee Milliner’s place. Milliner has a hamstring injury and was inactive. Walls got the start over Kyle Wilson, who was relegated to playing in the Jets’ nickel defense and sub packages.

Walls was picked on by Titans quarterback Jake Locker and gave up a touchdown. He also was flagged for holding on a third down, giving the Titans a new set of downs

The Jets have now lost their last four road games. … The Jets entered the game first in red-zone defense but gave up three touchdowns in four trips to the Titans.

QB Brady Quinn, RB Chris Ivory, LB Ricky Sapp, G Will Campbell, T Ben Ijalana and T Oday Aboushi were all inactive in addition to Milliner.
