Full service returning on New Haven line

Full service will return to Metro-North’s New Haven train line starting Monday after a 12-day power failure, MTA officials said.

A broken Con Edison feeder cable knocked out an eight-mile strip of the line on Sept. 25, leaving thousands of frustrated commuters stranded, officials said.

Workers have since installed a new electrical substation in Mount Vernon and conducted a series of tests to make sure it works.

“I want to thank our customers for their patience . . . authorities continue to investigate the cause of this failure,” said MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast.

The New Haven Line is the busiest passenger rail line in the country, serving 130,000 customers a day, according to the MTA.
