Joe Torre will give presentation at children’s benefit

Joe Torre is coming to town to honor his hedge-fund pal Bruce Richards. The former New York Yankees manager is presenting Richards, chief executive of New York’s Marathon Asset Management, with the Award for Caring.

Torre will step up at the 16th Annual New York Open Your Heart to the Children Benefit at the star-spangled Hedge Funds Care (HFC) charity fest.

The $1,000-a-ticket night of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and live entertainment is slated for March 6 at Cipriani on 42nd Street.

“We’re expecting over 800 people, and we expect to beat or surpass last year’s fundraising amount of $2 million,” Kathryn Conroy, HFC’s executive director and CEO, told On the Money, as she noted Torres’ popularity among the hedge-fund crowd.

“He was our honoree two years ago,” she said.

“I was grateful,” Torre humbly said. “It is my honor to present the award on behalf of HFC to Bruce Richards.”

HFC, also known as Help For Children, has raised more than $37 million since it was founded in 1998.
