Sex & Relationships

This week’s couple: City limits

If two people hail from the same part of the country and wind up living in the same borough, getting along should be easy. At least, that was the theory behind introducing Andrew, 29, to Emily, 25. The two former Colorado residents met over bacon and whiskey at the newly opened BarBacon in Hell’s Kitchen. Were they able to bond over their common roots — or did the date make them want to run for the hills?

SHE SAID:

Andrew was quite handsome and well-dressed. I was relieved — even more so once we started talking.

We talked about where we grew up, travel, work and Colorado, where we both used to live. He was so personable.

BarBacon is one of the coolest places I’ve eaten. The food was phenomenal and the drinks were killer. The menu is easy to share, so we shared it all!

We stayed at BarBacon for three hours, then downtown for more drinks. We exchanged numbers, and I would go out with him again. We’ll see how things go but stay friends either way. Good company, good atmosphere, good food and drinks: overall, a great date.

HE SAID:

I was not physically attracted to Emily, but I could tell she was very confident. I focused on seeing if friendship was a possibility.

I enjoyed hearing all of Emily’s stories. We talked about the differences between Colorado and New York and even had a few acquaintances in common. I asked her about her tattoos and her work as a tour manager for bands. I liked Emily’s love for adventure and new places.

The service at BarBacon was solid. Their bacon flight was a first-time experience for me, and it was fun to try difference spice and flavor combinations. I recommend it for a large group and sharing plates.

At the end of the date, Emily and I left it open. I thought she was a fun date and a nice girl — she just wasn’t my type.
