Daft Punk’s ‘Lucky’ streams rise 200% on Spotify

Daft Punk continues to “Get Lucky.”

The robot-headed electric-funk duo, hours after winning four Grammys, saw the number of streams of their hit song on Spotify soar more than 200 percent in the 24 hours ended Monday.

It was the highest increase of any artist who performed during the Sunday-night awards show, Spotify said Tuesday.

Daft Funk performed the song with Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.

In fact, the all-star jam started with a few bars of Wonder’s “Another Star” — and that classic saw its number of streams soar 635 percent, according to Spotify.

The French group won Grammy Awards for best album and best song of the year for “Random Access Memories,” and “Get Lucky,” respectively.

Perhaps reflecting songs that are infrequently selected, Spotify also reported a huge uptick in streams for Chicago’s “Does Anybody Really
Know What Time It Is?” performed on the show with Robin Thicke, which rose 150 percent over the two-day period.

Spotify didn’t share data on Bruno Mars, who won a Grammy Award, performed on the show and is headlining the Super Bowl half-time show on Feb. 2.

While the record labels and the artists get paid per stream, what they really hope for is increased sales. At times, increased interest in streaming can lead to greater sales.

Nielsen SoundScan will be out with sales data for the week on Wednesday.

The Grammys broadcast is the second-most popular awards show after the Academy Awards.

This year’s show on CBS reaped 28.5 million viewers, up slightly from last year’s 28.4 million.
