Ivanka’s a mom first, wherever her travels lead her

Ivanka Trump may be best known as the daughter of The Donald, but the 32 year-old native New Yorker is also an accomplished hotel developer, jewelry and accessories designer, model and mother. A graduate of Wharton and regular judge on “The Apprentice,” Trump stylishly straddles the worlds of television, real estate, fashion, finance and philanthropy. Next month, Trump will be a welcome presence in South Florida where she’s co-hosting the annual Cadillac Championship/World Golf Championship (March 5-9) at Trump National Doral Miami resort. The iconic property joined the Trump family in 2012 and is now undergoing a top-to-bottom $250 million renovation. As she gears up to welcome golfers from around the globe, the young Ms. Trump shared her tips for traveling with two kids — and class.

The Czech Republic is a very special place to me and when I was a child I visited my grandmother there during the summer. We would spend a couple of days in Prague, one of my favorite cities, and then visit her home town of Zlin, where she still lives today.

One of the best travel adventures I’ve ever taken was to Patagonia. I’ve been there several times, and each visit was more amazing than before. Last time we stayed at the Explora Lodge.

When I travel I always get things for my daughter, Arabella, and my son, Joseph. I love to bring home something small that is authentic to the destination. Once I bought a beautiful cotton dress embroidered with flowers in Mexico. I couldn’t get Arabella out of it once she put it on! Before I leave for a trip, I open a map with my daughter and mark the places where I am going with a flag. Then we discuss the location and she asks me questions about the place and what I plan to do while I am there.

The most rewarding thing about traveling with children is watching their curiosity and excitement flourish as they explore and discover new places. This summer we brought our daughter to Rome and we all immersed ourselves in the culture. We even learned how to make pizza!

There are three key things that make a hotel superior: location, physical structure and design and exceptional, personalized service.

The one place I still dream of visiting is St. Petersburg in Russia — and I am finally going. It’s a business trip, but I decided to stay a few extra days. I’m most excited about visiting the Hermitage Museum.

I think people really underestimate the beauty of Scotland. It is known to be gorgeous but unless you have seen it firsthand, it is hard to comprehend just how stunning a country it actually is.

My secret to smart and successful packing: great accessories. I pick smart, transitional pieces of apparel and plenty of shoes and jewelry so each look is unique. It’s the best way to maximize space and limit stress on the road. Also important is a versatile and chic carry-on bag that accommodates all my work reading and technology — there is nothing better than landing with an inbox at zero! My favorite luggage is by T. Anthony; I have been using a piece by them since I was 15.
