Rivera Ave. picks up steam

With the City Council set to vote before the end of the month on renaming a block near Yankee Stadium in Mariano Rivera’s honor, a midtown bar is trying to add to the support.

Foley’s NY Pub & Restaurant will hold a petition signing beginning Wednesday to encourage the council to approve a bill that would turn part of River Avenue into Rivera Avenue. The petition will be available until Nov. 29.

“We thought this would be a fun and meaningful way to give fans an opportunity to honor Mariano Rivera in a special way,” said Foley’s owner Shaun Clancy, who renamed the bar “Mariano’s” during the Yankees’ final home stand in September.

Councilwoman Maria del Carmen Arroyo (D-Bronx) introduced a bill last month, shortly after a campaign was launched by a fan and The Post to honor the Yankees’ ace relief pitcher who retired at the end of the season.

According to a source, there is no known opposition to it passing.

“He’s a local hero and that’s what we use street co-naming efforts to honor — those who have contributed to the local community,” Arroyo told The Post last month. “What [Rivera] accomplished as a Yankee will be part of New York City for centuries to come.”

She submitted the request to co-name one block — River Avenue at East 161st Street — “Rivera Avenue.”

The proposal must be approved by the full council.
