Residents sue Dalton over school expansion plans

The prestigious Dalton School on the Upper East Side is getting too big for its britches, angry neighbors claim in a new lawsuit over the East 89th Street institution’s planned expansion.

A group called the Carnegie Hill Neighbors joined forces with two ritzy residential buildings — 111 E. 88th St. and 1105 Park Ave.— to overturn a January decision by the city’s Board of Standards and Appeals that approved a two-story addition to Dalton’s Upper School.

The residents huff that a 12,000-square-foot addition to 108-114 E. 89th St. is out of character with the rest of the block.

The construction and reduced sunlight will lower property values, they gripe in the Manhattan Supreme Court suit filed Tuesday.

Dalton, which charges a hefty $40,220 in yearly tuition, has increased enrollment by 25 students since its last expansion in 1992, but it wants the extra space for more technology and engineering programming, the suit says.

Reps for Dalton did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
