Designer dishes on dressing ‘Noah’ director for papal visit

Did he wear boat shoes?

Darren Aronofsky, whose Old Testament epic “Noah” opens Friday, looked slick for his papal audience. The director and the film’s star, Russell Crowe, met with Pope Francis, perhaps the hippest-ever Catholic leader, in Rome during the celebration for the pontiff’s one-year anniversary. Before his European promo jaunt, Aronofsky stocked up on suits from downtown men’s designer Patrik Ervell. The director had six suits made-to-measure for multinational premieres, including khaki for Mexico City and an emerald wool number for Berlin.

“Darren is a director I really respect,” says Ervell. “Dressing Darren for his meeting with the Pope was an added and unexpected surprise. Pope Francis would look great in a white version of the same suit.”

Ervell will attend the “Noah” premiere tonight in New York, where Aronofsky will be wearing another one of his designs. Which suit he’ll choose is unclear, but the pants will certainly not be floods.
