The town supervisor says a police chief in the suburbs has been arrested on a child pornography charge.
Mount Pleasant Supervisor Joan Maybury says Chief Brian Fanelli was taken into custody Thursday by Homeland Security agents.
She says Fanelli is to be arraigned in federal court in White Plains.
Fanelli has been chief for just two months in Mount Pleasant, about 25 miles north of New York City. He first joined the department in 1981.
The US Attorney’s office would not confirm the arrest. There were no court papers on file.
Maybury did not know what lawyer was representing Fanelli or any details of the case. She says Fanelli had been suspended with pay in accordance with his contract.
She said the town is cooperating with prosecutors.
