Brooklyn designer knits up a storm

A young Brooklyn designer has found a niche market, designing and making high-end quirky knits for companies including Victoria’s Secret and Converse.

Lindsay Degen, 25, studied fine art at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her grandmother taught her to knit when she was 3, but she never considered it as a career until she moved to New York.

Degen signed a publicist in June 2011, “knitted up a storm” and soon after showed her work at New York Fashion Week.

Degen funded her first and second seasons with $20,000 she made as an “art-school type” model for T.J. Maxx.

Her business, Degen-nyc.com, features custom knits including a “tiger” body stocking knitted with fishing line, which was worn by model Jessica Hart for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Tuesday.

Her fans include Christina Ricci and Nicki Minaj.
