Broncos, Seahawks return to practice field

The football week really begins on Wednesday of game week for players. So the Broncos were anxious to truly start their game preparations Wednesday. They had meetings followed by practice at the Jets’ training center in Florham Park.

“I think it starts in our first offensive meeting we will have here after this media day,” quarterback Peyton Manning said. “[Offensive coordinator] Adam Gase will set the tone. He does a good job of setting it in the meeting room, standing up there and talking about what we are going to do today.

“We will watch Monday’s practice, and then on the practice field, I certainly would be disappointed if I had to set the tone because I feel like our guys have practiced well all year. It’s been a big reason why we’ve have been able to play well on Sundays. Guys have been into practice. They were into it last week.

“Last week is a challenge to have good practices because you have stuff going on. Guys are trying to do tickets and all of those kinds of things. Our practices were up-tempo and focused last week, which I was real pleased with as a quarterback. I certainly expect that same intensity and up-tempo practices to take place starting today. That will be important.”

For their first full practice of Super Bowl week, the Seahawks worked out inside the Giants field house for 90 minutes and opened five doors to let in the cold air, attempting to simulate Sunday’s game-time temperature. It got down to 36 degrees inside the field house.

The only player who did not practice was RB Marshawn Lynch (knee), which often has been the case late in the season.

“Everybody’s fine,’’ coach Pete Carroll said. “This is the day we rest Marshawn. Wednesday is always a rest day for him. We’ve been doing that for years, and it’s always worked out great. We’re in great shape. We’re just as fortunate as can be to be in this kind of shape this late in the year.”

As far as practicing indoors, Carroll said, “The turf out there is somewhat frozen, and the turf in here is good.’’

He said he expects to practice outside in the next three days “only if we need to.’’
