Some suburban schools delayed by cold

With temperatures in the single digits, some schools on Long Island and Rockland County have issued delayed openings for Tuesday.

The high is expected to be 10 degrees. But wind chills will make it fell more like minus 10.

The Office of Emergency Management is warning New Yorkers that prolonged exposure to the cold can cause hypothermia, frostbite and could exacerbate chronic heart and lung conditions. Seniors and infants are most at risk.

The department of health is encouraging everyone to stay indoors as much as possible and to check on friends, family and neighbors.

Speed restrictions have been issued for the Tappan Zee Bridge due to high winds.

Alternate side of the street parking has been suspended in the city.
