Gibbs to $tep down

WASHINGTON — “Ka-ching” you can believe in!

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is leaving the White House to launch a lucrative career giving speeches, while offering outside advice to President Obama.

Gibbs, one of Obama’s closest and longest-serving advisers, told reporters he plans to leave government work and join the private sector at the end of the month — while still maintaining a close role advising his boss, whom he called the last candidate he will ever work for.

“What I’m going to do next is step back a little bit, recharge some,” he said.

One DC insider who has advised presidential campaigns said Gibbs could earn $25,000 a pop speaking to corporate clients.

Gibbs didn’t say whether he would be paid for the counsel he would provide Obama.
