Lawyer: I stole $362G from clients

A disbarred New Jersey attorney has admitted to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from clients.

Sergio Pastor, 41, of West Orange pleaded guilty to unauthorized practice of law and six counts of theft, Union County prosecutors say.

Pastor stole about $362,000 in client funds, they say.

He faces up to 11 years in prison when he’s sentenced Feb. 7.

He obtained the money through various methods, including misappropriating assets from the estate of a deceased client and siphoning funds out of a trust account for another client’s pending real-estate transaction.

Pastor was suspended by the New Jersey Supreme Court in August 2012, but continued to represent clients until he was arrested in Kenilworth Municipal Court in March. He was then disbarred in June.
