Cops hunt man who rappelled down side of Brooklyn Bridge

Police are looking for a man who used a hose to rappel down the side of the Brooklyn Bridge today, witnesses and authorities said.

The mystery daredevil made his way over the side of the bridge shortly after 9 a.m., police said, using an air compressor hose to slide down onto the roof of a NYPD car repair facility on Front Street near Dock Street before running off.

When police arrived, all they found was the dangling hose, which they said was part of an ongoing construction project underneath the roadway of the bridge.

Witnesses told The Post the man first attempted the feat by climbing down some netting that was too short to make it to the rooftop below. He then climbed back up, grabbed the hose, and slid to freedom.

“I guess he couldn’t make it [with the netting] so he went back up and came back down with a hose,” said witness Richie Torres. “I thought it was one of the guys that work there, but then I realized it’s 4th of July today. No guys up there working.”

Alan Smith, 28, was doing yoga on the roof of his building when he noticed the man making his way down from the famous span before calling police.

“We were pretty worried for his safety, as you can imagine, especially when he was on the net,” Smith said. “Actually he was incredibly strong, because he managed to pull himself up and back down on the hose. We’re just glad he made it to the bottom, to be honest.”

“I imagine he was in pretty good shape to do that sort of thing,” he added.

Once on the roof of the building, the suspect ran across the rooftops before witnesses lost sight of him.

Police helicopters took to the skies around the Downtown Brooklyn as officers canvassed the area for surveillance footage of the fearless stunt.

Cops said that once caught, the suspect will be charged with criminal trespassing, among other possible charges.

Authorities said the man is believed to be a thrill-seeker and do not suspect he has any link to terrorism.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, approximately 5-foot-8 and weighing around 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and glasses.
