Two jet skiers vanish in waters off Sea Gate

Two jet skiers vanished into the water off Sea Gate tonight after one of them fell off her ride and her companion jumped in and tried to save her, authorities said.

Coast Guard rescue boats and helicopters are still searching for the pair, as the woman’s husband and family waited anxiously for word onshore.

“It’s been over four hours and the police haven’t told me anything. I’ve gotten no news yet. That’s my wife out there,” said Tony, who claimed to be the female jet skier’s husband

Officials haven’t identified either person.

Witness Omayra Jimenez, 40, said she saw the two as they set off from shore on separate jet skis.

“The woman made a quick turn and fell backwards off the jet ski; she started waving her arms around as soon as she hit the water. It looked like she couldn’t swim.

“The man she was with stopped his jet ski right away and jumped in after her. I could tell she was panicking because she was splashing around a lot. When he grabbed her she just brought him under.”

Jimenez’s brother, Enrique Collet, 44, swam out to help.

“They were really far out in the water. I could see their heads going under and then coming back up,” Collet said.

“I swim as hard and as fast as I could but I lost track of them. They were gone after a few minutes.

“I wish there was something else I could’ve done.”
