Jill Soloway signs on to new Amazon venture

Amazon continues to beef up its TV programming slate — and has signed comedian-writer Jill Soloway to star in a new show, according to deadline.com.

Soloway, who worked on HBO’s “Six Feet Under” and Showtime’s “The United States of Tara,” among other TV projects, will create the new show, details of which are scarce at this point.

It’s described by deadline as focused on “a family with a few secrets,” which would keep with the “Six Feet Under” theme (that series, created by Alan Ball, revolved around a family of LA-based undertakers).

Soloway wrote and directed her first feature film, “Afternoon Delight,” which snared the directing award at Sundance and will be released widely.

Her deal is the latest in a string of high-profile moves by Amazon Studios.

In May, it picked up its first original shows, including two sitcoms — “Alpha House,” starring John Goodman, Clark Johnson and Mark Consuelos and “Betas” — and also gave the go-ahead to several kiddie shows.
