Search continues for jet skiers missing off Sea Gate, Brooklyn

Two jet skiers vanished into the water off Sea Gate, Brooklyn, last night after one fell off her ride and her companion jumped in to try to save her, authorities said.

Coast Guard rescue boats and helicopters searched late into the night for the pair, but stopped shortly before midnight.

A man who identified himself as the woman’s husband waited anxiously onshore with her family.

“It’s been over four hours and the police haven’t told me anything . . . That’s my wife out there,” he said, giving only his first name, Tony.

Officials didn’t identify either person last night.

A witness, Omayra Jimenez, 40, said she saw the two as they set off from shore on separate jet skis.

The woman, who was not wearing a life vest, “made a quick turn and fell backwards . . . She started waving her arms around as soon as she hit the water. It looked like she couldn’t swim,” Jimenez said.

“The man she was with stopped his jet ski right away and jumped in after her. When he grabbed her, she just brought him under.”

Jimenez’s brother, Enrique Collet, 44, swam out to help.

“I swim as hard and as fast as I could, but I lost track of them,” he said. “They were gone after a few minutes. I wish there was something else I could have done.”
