CHSAA boys basketball roundup: St. Ray’s edges St. Francis Prep

It wasn’t pretty, but it’s a win St. Raymond’s will take heading into the postseason.

Coming off a loss to PSAL powerhouse Lincoln in the PrimeTime Shootout Sunday, the top-ranked Ravens closed out the regular season with a 62-58 win against St. Francis Prep Tuesday evening in The Bronx.

Kerwin Okoro had 23 points, including 13-of-14 from the foul line, 15 rebounds and six blocks, Daniel Dingle had 17 points, 14 rebounds and four assists and Franklyn Garcia, playing in his final regular-season home game, added nine points for St. Raymond’s (15-9, 9-2 Archdiocesan New York).

George Hatzioannides had 16 points and Glyne Straker added 15 for St. Francis Prep (12-12, 3-10 Brooklyn/Queens), which lost its final six games of the regular season.

No. 2 Christ the King 70, Burke Catholic (N.J.)42: Omar Calhoun had 20 points, five rebounds and two steals, Chris Ortiz had 10 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks and George Mason-bound Corey Edwards added seven points, 10 assists and three steals for Christ the King (16-6) in a non-league win Tuesday night in Middle Village.

No. 4 Xaverian 49, All Hallows 33: Marist-bound Manny Thomas had 14 points, Mohamad Abass added nine and Vinny Dacunto and Dillon Burns netted eight apiece for Xaverian (15-7, 7-6 Brooklyn/Queens) against All Hallows (5-15, 3-7 Archdiocesan New York) Tuesday afternoon in The Bronx.

No. 8 Mount St. Michael 67, Fordham Prep 42: Peter Aguilar netted 22 points to lead Mount St. Michael (23-1, 14-1 A-North), while Tom Whelan had 21 for Fordham Prep (19-4, 11-4 A-Central) Tuesday in The Bronx.

No. 7 Cardinal Hayes 52, Iona Prep 44: Jalen Jenkins had 18 points and Davon Sylvester and Fadil Yacoubou had 13 points apiece for Cardinal Hayes (19-5, 13-2 A-North), while Felix Abongo and Luke Wooters had 10 points apiece for Iona Prep (10-12, 8-7) Tuesday afternoon in New Rochelle.

Bishop Ford 60, St. John’s Prep 45: Josh Blasgrove had 16 points and Rashid Cooper netted 15 points for Bishop Ford (8-13, 6-9 A-South), while Ryan Yearwood had 15 for St. John’s Prep (4-17, 2-13) Tuesday afternoon in Astoria.

St. Edmund Prep 69, Goldstein 40: David Louison had 15 points and 12 rebounds, Matt O’Neill had eight points and Oliver Auguste netted seven for St. Edmund Prep (15-9) in a non-league game Tuesday

No. 10 Archbishop Stepinac 54, Bishop Ford 38: Conroy Baltimore had 17 points and James Chillemi netted 14 to pace Stepinac (15-8, 10-5 A-North) Monday afternoon in White Plains. Eric Kippins scored 14 points and Arend Augustus had 12 for Bishop Ford.

Regis 56, LaSalle 52: Billy Carballeira had a game-high 27 points and Dan Morris had 18 points to lead Regis (10-14, 5-10 A-Central), while Kendall Brown scored 14 points, Martin Wilson had 13 and Chris Polanco added 12 for LaSalle (2-15, 0-15 A-South) Monday in Manhattan.
