Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio sat down for several hours Tuesday with former NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton – one of the two leading contenders to become the city’s next top cop.
Bratton, who has also served as police chief in Los Angeles and Boston, is the first potential commissioner known to have been interviewed by the incoming administration.
“We met yesterday afternoon to discuss the position of police commissioner,” Bratton told The Post.
A former NYPD commissioner under Mayor Giuliani from 1994 to 1996, Bratton said he met with de Blasio for several hours at an offsite location rather than at a city office.
He declined to say what topics they covered, and when asked how he thought he did said only that discussions were continuing.
“He indicated that he’s meeting with a number of other people,” said Bratton.
De Blasio has also mentioned NYPD Chief of Department Phillip Banks III as a top contender to replace current commissioner Ray Kelly — whom de Blasio has criticized for his management of stop and frisk.
