Taxi smashes through East Side store window

A cabbie lost control of his yellow taxi and crashed through the front of an East Side eyeglass store Sunday, officials said.

The driver and his passenger were treated for minor injuries at Beth Israel Hospital after the afternoon accident at Second Avenue and East 14th Street.

Witnesses said the taxi jumped the curb and plowed into the Optyx optical shop shortly after 4 p.m.

The store was closed at the time.

“There was a lot of smoke,” said witness Richard Sierra, 34, a security guard from The Bronx.

“We called 911, and they got here pretty quick. The lady looked shaken up. There was a woman standing on the curb who almost got hit. She was extremely shaken up. The cab was definitely going faster than normal.”

Cops said the driver received several summonses but did not immediately say what they were for.
