Giants blitz

HERO

This is Jerrel Jernigan’s third year with the Giants and he had yet to find the end zone with a touchdown reception … until he got one in the second quarter for his first career TD. Jernigan later added a sliding catch in OT to set up the game-winning field goal. He finished with six catches for 80 yards subbing for Victor Cruz.

UNSUNG HERO

Mathias Kiwanuka buzzed around Lions QB Matthew Stafford all game, getting the Giants’ only two sacks and putting five hits on Stafford. Kiwanuka also added a forced fumble in the second quarter when he separated Reggie Bush from the ball.

ZERO

Sure, Calvin Johnson was not at full strength after missing time this week with a knee issue. And yes, Prince Amukamara did a good job shadowing Megatron. But after a quiet first half (three catches for 43 yards), Johnson was shut out after halftime as the Lions fans jeered and booed their offense repeatedly.

KEY STAT

0: The number of solo tackles for Lions DT Ndamukong Suh, who was blocked by Brandon Mosley (in his first NFL start) and for three quarters by seldom-used Dallas Reynolds. Suh also did not have a sack.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“That was a very, very nice ending for a bunch of guys that worked their butts off this week despite all that was being said about us.’’

— Coach Tom Coughlin on the Giants’ comeback victory
