Designer Reed Krakoff just sold his Upper East Side townhouse for $51 million.
The stunning 30 foot wide townhouse, designed by Krakoff’s wife Delphine, is a neo-Georgian brick and limestone classic that was originally built in 1910.
Delphine Krakoff once told Vogue, which featured the home in 2010, that she and her husband were “looking for a home that needed a lot of work. Something that would scare a lot of people.”
The 7 story home at 113-115 E 70th St. is a sprawling 18,000 square feet. It had been turned into 12 separate apartments before the Krakoffs restored it back into single family mansion status.
Brokers with knowledge of the house said it was represented by Paula Del Nunzio, of Brown Harris Stevens, who declined to comment. She sold Krakoff’s last home, at 157 E. 61st St., to Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters.
Krakoff bought the mansion for $17 million in 2005. By 2009, he wanted to sell it for $52 million — just a million more than the price he ultimately just sold it for.
The $51 million townhouse comes with 18th century British and French floorboards, 18th century French mantels and walls that were plastered by hand — along with a giant, curving staircase.
Krakoff, the former executive creative director of Coach, has his own popular luxury design label now.
The townhouse includes a large library that also doubles as the dining room.
There’s also a playroom on the fifth floor, created for the Krakoffs’ three children, designed by Pierre Le-Tan, a Paris-based artist who has worked with Reed on other projects.
