‘Jersey Shore’ money to rescue town?

The town that hosted MTV’s “Jersey Shore” wants to use the money raised by the show’s cast to build a sea wall to protect its famous boardwalk from another disaster like Superstorm Sandy.

Officials in Seaside Heights say they have $1 million from a November benefit staged by MTV and featuring the cast of the notorious reality show.

Borough administrator John Camera told the Asbury Park Press yesterday that the wall could cost between $1 million and $2 million to build.

The town is prohibited by law from using Federal Emergency Management Administration relief money for the wall because it is a new project.

FEMA funds can be used only to rebuild homes and businesses that were already standing at the time of the storm.

Using the money from the “Jersey Shore” benefit would reduce the burden taxpayers, Camera said.
