Group ‘stole’ lunch money

Two nonprofit executives and a food vendor were charged yesterday with stealing more than $50,000 in city funds by inflating the number of lunches served at a South Ozone Park senior center.

Chan Jamoona and his daughter Veda, of the United Hindu Cultural Council, were arrested with Steven Rajkumar, owner of Sonny’s Roti Shop, said the city’s Department of Investigation.

The council had a contract with the Department of Aging since July 1999. A whistleblower alerted authorities to the long-running scam, authorities said.

Investigators also claim Veda Jamoona was paid $13,000 for time not worked.
