MLB: Red Sox snap Dodgers’ win streak

Jon Lester pitched three-hit ball into the eighth inning, Jonny Gomes’ three-run homer capped a four-run first, and the Red Sox beat the Dodgers 4-2 yesterday in Los Angeles, snapping the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak.

In Baltimore, Coco Crisp hit a tiebreaking home run leading off the ninth inning and Jarrod Parker earned his eighth straight win as the A’s beat the Orioles 2-1.

In St. Louis, rookie Shelby Miller worked seven innings of three-hit ball, Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran each homered and the Cardinals beat the Braves 6-2.

In Cleveland, Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis hit two-run homers, and Zach McAllister won his third straight start as the Indians beat the Twins 7-2 to move into third place in the crowded AL wild-card race.

In Chicago, rookie Josh Phegley singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the White Sox to a 3-2 victory the Rangers. Yu Darvish gave up two runs in seven innings and struck out 11.

FOOTBALL: Sandusky’s son, seven others settle

Eight men, including Jerry Sandusky’s adopted son, Matt, and a Sandusky victim key to longtime coach Joe Paterno’s firing, have finalized deals with Penn State over claims of abuse by the school’s former assistant football coach, their lawyer said.

In Arlington, Texas, Tony Romo threw two touchdown passes as the Cowboys beat the Bengals 24-18.

In Indianapolis, Andrew Luck threw for two touchdowns as the Colts beat Cleveland 27-6.

In Landover, Md., Buffalo’s Kevin Kolb left with concussion-like symptoms in the Redskins’ 30-7 win over the Bills.

In Jacksonville, Bryce Brown and Chris Polk ran for fourth-quarter touchdowns, and the Eagles rallied to beat the Jaguars 31-24.

Henry Lopez headed in a cross in the second minute of second-half stoppage time to lift the Cosmos to a 2-1 win over San Antonio in a NASL match at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium.

In Carson, Calif., Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47 KOs) stopped Abner Mares (26-1-1) late in the first round, reclaiming the WBC featherweight title.
