Athletic director, 2 coaches suspended from Bronx HS of Science

The coaches of the high-profile Bronx HS of Science track team whose members were charged with viciously and sexually hazing a freshman teammate were suspended from their coaching duties yesterday, education officials said.

Athletic Director Marion Dietrich and two coaches were sidelined pending the outcome of a probe into repeated incidents of alleged assault and forcible touching by at least three track team members.

The three coaches will continue with their teaching duties during the investigation, according to the Department of Education.

They get paid overtime to manage the track team, which has also seen its season suspended pending the outcome of the case.

Two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old at the high-performing school were arrested last week after a freshman track star told authorities the trio had repeatedly threatened him with rape and assaulted him sexually through his clothing.

The incidents were said to have occurred in the boys’ locker room from late December through February 25.

“It’s despicable if it happened,” Mayor Bloomberg said when asked about the allegations. “This…if it’s true, went way beyond kids being kids and it’s just inappropriate and the school is going to make sure we investigate and take appropriate action afterwards.”

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said the three teens have been reassigned to other schools but have yet to be disciplined by the Department of Education.

Their punishments are expected to be determined at suspension hearings later this week.

A message left for Dietrich wasn’t immediately returned.
