Fans complain over botched Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos launch

For many fast-food enthusiasts, today was Taco Hell.

On the day that fast-food chain Taco Bell was set to release its newest flavor of the wildly popular Doritos Locos Taco, many franchises were unaware of the pushed up sale date and customers were unable to try out the restaurant’s latest concoction.

Taco Bell had teased in various advertising campaigns and on its website that the highly anticipated Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco would be available for purchase on March 6 or even earlier if fans requested at participating locations.

Along with a friend, I attempted to try the tasty taco after midnight on Wednesday at a Taco Bell location in New Rochelle only to be told at the drive-thru that the store would not be selling the new menu item until Thursday, a day after the alleged release date.

Email inquiries to Taco Bell’s public and media relations departments by two reporters were not immediately returned, but the company released an apology statement. A spokeswoman said that the early delivery was only at participating restaurants and that all customers should call ahead to ensure their location does have the tacos.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday afternoon that some locations in New York City did indeed have the tacos. According to Gothamist, the Taco Bell near Union Square was crowded, but did have them in stock.

A year ago, the chain, which is owned by Yum Brands, released its first version of the Doritos Locos Tacos in the traditional Nacho Cheese flavor.
