Thugs face life behind bars after robbery spree & shootout with cops

A pair of felons face life in prison for going on an hour-long robbery spree that culminated in a shoot-out with cops.

A Queens jury found Urban Fermin, 33, and Darius Lowery, 25, guilty on a laundry list of charges including first-degree attempted murder of a police officer, robbery, burglary, assault and grand larceny.

The jury determined Fermin was the getaway driver who took a stolen 2000 Ford Focus on a high-speed chase through South Jamaica on Feb 3, 2010 as his partner, Lowery, fired eight shots at NYPD Officers Shawn Phillips and Steven Betts on Sutphin Boulevard.

Lowery was stone-faced today as the forewoman delivered 22 “guilty” verdicts, while Fermin “blessed” the jury on Monday when they convicted him.

The thugs will be sentenced on March 18 and 28, respectively, and face 25 years to life in prison, according to District Attorney Richard A. Brown.

Lowery is also awaiting sentencing for a federal gun-point robbery conviction of a Far Rockaway jewelry story in November 2009 where he stole more than $100,000 in jewelry and brutally assaulted the owner of the store.

Fermin had a 2003 conviction in Queens where he pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to five years in prison.
