Yankees’ Ichiro in car crash, not hurt

TAMPA — Ichiro Suzuki avoided injury last night when his car collided with another vehicle.

“He is fine,’’ Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “His interpreter called to let us know.’’

Ichiro was headed south in his Land Rover on a Tampa highway around 4 p.m. when he hit Linda Trange Le, who failed to yield the right of way when making a left hand turn in front of Ichiro, according to Tampa police.

“He struck her,” Tampa Lt. Ronald McMullen told The Post. “She ended up hitting a third car, but there were no injuries.”

Trange Le was cited for the accident. Ichiro’s translator was at the scene when police arrived.

“The officer didn’t even know he played baseball,” McMullen said jokingly. “He said, ‘I know the Rays but the Yankees?’ ”

It is not known if Ichiro, who signed a two-year contract during the offseason, will have to miss any spring training games. Because he played Saturday against the Tigers at George M. Steinbrenner Field, he wasn’t scheduled to make the two-hour trip to Fort Myers on Sunday when the Yankees play the Red Sox.

The Yankees and Ichiro were fortunate he wasn’t hurt. Already without Curtis Granderson, the team couldn’t afford to lose their right fielder and a hitter they are counting on hitting near the top of the lineup.
