Harrison won’t leave St. John’s despite suspension

Star guard D’Angelo Harrison has decided to remain at St. John’s and could meet with coach Steve Lavin Monday morning before the team leaves for its Tuesday night game at Notre Dame, The Post has learned.

Lavin suspended Harrison Thursday for what sources said was conduct detrimental to the team. Harrison’s grandmother, Angela Harris, had an hour-long phone call with Lavin Thursday night and spoke to him briefly on Sunday.

All three parties agreed on a plan that will help Harrison mature on and off the court. Harris told The Post that her grandson was optimistic about his future at St. John’s.

The Johnnies lost their first game without him, dropping a 62-59 decision at Providence Saturday night. Harrison watched the game and has been in touch with his teammates.

Sources said Lavin is unwavering in his decision to suspend Harrison for the rest of the season, the Big East Tournament and any postseason tournament. He believes he is acting in Harrison’s best interests and the best interests of the program.
