5 ‘Downton Abbey’ stars hitting the big screen

“Downton Abbey” may have just wrapped up its fourth season on PBS, but its stars’ movie careers are just getting rolling. Lord Grantham, Lady Mary, Lady Sybil, Matthew Crawley and even Tom Branson are all hitting the big screen at once. Here’s a look.

The film: Action comedy “The Monuments Men,” in theaters now.

The role: Donald Jeffries, an alcoholic British Army officer and art lover who is recruited to join a Nerdy Dozen of art experts trying to save priceless treasures jeopardized by the Germans during World War II.

What would Lady Grantham say: “Oh dear, must you work for those frightful Americans?”

Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary)

The film: Action mystery “Non-Stop,” in theaters this week.

The role: Nancy, a British flight attendant on a New York-London flight who learns that a terrorist is determined to kill several people on the plane and, perhaps, blow it up.

What would Lady Grantham say: “It simply won’t do for one of our kind to be seen serving drinks. I think it better the plane should crash to avoid further embarrassment.”

Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley)

The film: Horror thriller “The Guest,” premiered at Sundance in January. No release date yet.

The role: David Collins, a mysterious guest at the home of an American couple. He says he fought with their son, who died in the war in Afghanistan.

What would Lady Grantham say: “Why couldn’t he have just stayed in Afghanistan and taught the natives some proper English manners?”

Jessica Brown Findlay (Lady Sybil)

The film: The romantic fantasy “Winter’s Tale,” in theaters now.

The role: A tragic heiress with a permanent, debilitating fever who is romanced by a thief (Colin Farrell).

What would Lady Grantham say: “While I’ve no doubt it can be inconvenient to die of tuberculosis, that’s no excuse for having relations with a common criminal.”

Allen Leech (Tom Branson)

The films: The indie horror film “In Fear,” in theaters March 7; the indie thriller “Grand Piano,” also March 7.

The roles: A mysterious stranger who joins a terrified couple fleeing from a masked figure on a deserted country road; a friend of a concert pianist (Elijah Wood) who finds a note in his sheet music telling him that if he plays one wrong note at his recital, he’ll die.

What would Lady Grantham say: “I did warn you about those dreadful Irishmen.”
