Trial date set for alleged ‘Dance Mom’ assault

A Bronx judge set a May trial date for the “Dance Mom” accused of roughing her up daughter’s instructor.

Kelly Hyland, once featured in the Lifetime series “Dance Moms,” was ordered Monday to come back to Bronx Criminal Court on May 2 when she’s scheduled to go to trial for allegedly assaulting instructor Abby Lee Miller.

The dust-up, which happened backstage at Lehman College in November, was only shown to the public in the Feb. 11 episode of “Dance Moms.”

Prosecutors said they’re ready for trial now, but didn’t oppose the adjournment to May 2.

Defense lawyer Paul Martin said he’s still trying to find uncut video footage of the incident, which he said would show Miller being the aggressor.

“My client’s intention is to go trial. She believes that she’s not guilty of any crime and we’re confident that when a jury considers all the evidence that she’ll be vindicated,” Martin said.

“I think the videotape along with the history of Ms. Miller my client will be vindicated of any type of criminal wrongdoing.”

“Dance Moms” is set in Pittsburgh, at the Abby Lee Dance Company, where Miller instructs teen and pre-teen hoofers.

The show focuses on Miller’s tough tactics, stage moms and competition against dancers from rival studios.
