Analyst says Geno has learning to do

NFL Network football analyst Mike Mayock said he feels Geno Smith has a chance to be the Jets’ quarterback of the future, but there’s some work to be done.

“I think he can be. They’ve gotta be patient and they’ve gotta surround him with some talent,” Mayock told The Post.

Smith and Bills rookie EJ Manuel were the only quarterbacks Mayock gave first-round grades a year ago, with Mike Glennon (Buccaneers) a second-rounder.

“Of the three quarterbacks we’re talking about, I think [Smith has] got a little bit longer learning curve,” Mayock said. “He lacks anticipation, which most young quarterbacks do at this stage of their career. Part of it is learning how to go through his progressions and make reads. When he sees it, trusts it and pulls the trigger, it’s really good. I can put two different reels together for you and I can show you two different kids.”

Mayock said he thought Manuel, despite being plagued by knee issues, has been developing more quickly than Smith.

“I’m really bullish on Manuel,” Mayock said. “I believe in the kid.”

Mayock said he likes the fact Smith can use his legs as a weapon.

“While I respect the fact he wants to develop as a pocket quarterback, he can also use his athletic ability while he’s young,” Mayock said. “If you can pull it down, go get the first down.”

Mayock said he thinks offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is good for Smith.

“I think he’s a quarterback-friendly guy,” Mayock said. “I think he’ll show patience if the organization does.”

Satin newlyweds head to Thailand

Mets infielder Josh Satin and his new bride Allyson didn’t exactly take a normal honeymoon last month. They didn’t go to Hawaii, Miami or Italy. The couple spent 13 days in Thailand.

As part of the trip, Josh and Allyson each spent a day with a pair of elephants in Chiang Mai.

“It’s part of a countrywide effort to help preserve elephants,” Josh said. “My wife’s elephant was Tip. I forget what my guy was.

“We did everything with our two friends. We bathed them, rode them, fed them and helped them go to the bathroom. It was an experience neither of us will never forget.”

The Satins did do some normal things on their honeymoon.

“Thailand is such a diversified country,” Josh said. “It has a little bit of everything. We visited temples and museums and the last six days we spent time on the beach. And then we had some elephants. What more could you ask for?”

Carson has a toy story

Once a Giant, always a Giant. Harry Carson, with the help of former teammates George Martin and Zeke Mowatt, spent their Saturday handing out Christmas toys to needy children in Newark as part of their Man Etc. Inc. enterprise.

Carson had his grandchildren Kellen (4) and Jamison, who turned 8 Saturday, with him. And on Sunday, Hall of Fame Harry delivered more toys, through TimeToPlayMag.com, to selected lucky homes.

“We’ve adopted six families in Newark,” Carson told the Rumble.

Toy analyst Jim Silver donated the toys. Carson refrained from dressing as Santa. “I make an odd-looking Santa,” he said.

How about that! New Mel Allen disc

A new Mel Allen CD, narrator by Cubs voice Pat Hughes, is a holiday must for Bomber fans. It’s available at www.baseballvoices.com. “There was no shortage of material,” Hughes said. As the late voice of the Yankees used to say: “How about that!” … Carlos Beltran celebrated his Yankees contract with dinner at Appetito Ristorante in midtown. Ken Griffey Jr. went there for dinner last week and earlier this month Ozzie Smith was spotted in the dining room.
