Weird But True

Mother shot at son’s killer after parking-space flap

A mother told cops she watched her son get fatally shot over a parking spot in Jamaica, Queens — and then grabbed her son’s own gun and shot at the fleeing suspect, police sources said Tuesday.

The mom said she and her son, Darrell Lynch, 24, got into an argument with the man over a parking spot on 113th Avenue sometime Monday, sources said. When the pair returned to their black Ford Explorer around 7:30 p.m., the man approached them and shot Lynch in the leg, the mother told police.

The bullet pierced Lynch’s femoral artery, according to authorities.

The dying Lynch then dropped his own illegal .45-caliber handgun, and the mother picked it up and fired at the fleeing killer, she told cops.

That weapon was recovered.

The man who shot Lynch fled from the scene, police said.

Lynch and his mother were rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The mother, whose name has not been release, is being questioned about the gunfight.

Lynch has been arrested in the past and was not licensed to carry a firearm in New York City, sources said.
