Former Redskins TE Davis may visit Jets

The Jets may be zeroing in on Dustin Keller’s replacement at tight end.

Free agent Fred Davis told Pro Football Central Radio that he will visit the Jets after he visits the Bills today if a deal does not get done in Buffalo.

Davis, 27, has spent the past five years with the Redskins after playing at USC with Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. Davis’ best season came in 2011 when he had 59 catches for 796 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. He was suspended the final four games of that season for repeated failed drug tests.

Davis’ season ended after just seven games last year when he tore his left Achilles’ tendon.

The Jets lost starting tight end Keller this month when he signed with the Dolphins. The team currently has Jeff Cumberland as its top tight end.
