Giants report card

OFFENSE

Looked like Brandon Jacobs circa 2009 as the big guy carried the load (22 carries, 105 yards, 2 TDs) in a throwback performance. Best work yet for the line, opening holes and offering protection. Rueben Randle had a 37-yard TD, but he gets the blame for running wrong route on Eli Manning’s pick-6. As for Manning (14-of-26, 239 yards, 1 TD), three more INTs, including game-killer, in another nightmare outing.

DEFENSE

Way too much given up in first half, but the Giants really put the clamps down after halftime, allowing only three points. No pressure on Jay Cutler (no sacks) and WR Brandon Marshall (9 rec., 87 yards, 2 TDs) pushed around Terrell Thomas in end zone. Excellent work vs. Matt Forte (19 carries, 67 yards). New LB Jon Beason (12 tackles) is going to make a difference if he stays healthy.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Jerrel Jernigan busted loose with a 46-yard kickoff return. Trumaine McBride forced a fumble by Devin Hester, who was held in check on punt returns. Steve Weatherford failed to put one of his punts down inside the 20.

Grade: B

COACHING

The first-half defensive performance was terrible and Perry Fewell cannot generate a pass rush. Kevin Gilbride wisely balanced out the offense with Jacobs, keeping the Bears honest. Tom Coughlin got his team to play hard through the fourth quarter, but he has no answers for what’s ailing Manning.
