Apple wants to make it easier to ‘walk & text’

Apple is turning the art of walking and texting into a science.

The tech giant has filed a patent for ā€œtransparent textingā€ that aims to make it easier to stroll the streets without walking into a lamppost or getting struck by a car.

The visibility technology would replace the background of a text message with live video feed of a userā€™s surroundings, according to the patent made public last week.

Several studies suggest that walking while texting is even more difficult ā€” and distracting ā€” than texting while driving.

ā€œA user who is walking while participating in a text messaging session may inadvertently collide with or stumble over objects in his path because his attention was focused on his deviceā€™s display instead of the path that he was traversing,ā€ according to the patent filing.
