Newtown mom plea

WASHINGTON — President Obama today ratchets up pressure on Congress for new gun laws by turning over his weekly radio address to Newtown mom Francine Wheeler, who lost her 6-year-old son, Ben, in the school massacre.

“Irrepressibly bright and spirited, Ben experienced life at full tilt — until that morning,” recalled Wheeler in the emotionally charged plea. “Please help us do something before our tragedy becomes your tragedy.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Pete King (R-LI) jumped to the front of the gun debate in the House. King and Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) plan to introduce a version of a bipartisan compromise bill reached in the Senate for expanded background checks.
