MLB: Dickey wins; Reyes out until after break

R.A. Dickey gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings and Jose Bautista hit a two-run homer as the Blue Jays beat the Royals 3-2 in Kansas City.

Dickey, the 2012 National League Cy Young Award winner with the Mets, was 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA in his first two Blue Jays starts. Last night he gave up five hits, walked two and struck out four to pick up the victory.

Before the game, the Jays placed Jose Reyes on the 15-day disabled list. He will likely be out until after the All-Star break with a sprained ankle suffered Friday night.

In Miami, Chris Coghlan hit a game-ending single against a draw-in infield with one out in the ninth inning, giving the Marlins a 2-1 victory over the Phillies for just their second win. Marlins 20-year old phenom Jose Fernandez pitched six scoreless innings to outduel Cole Hamels.

In Washington, Tim Hudson pitched seven innings of four-hit ball, Evan Gattis homered, and the Braves beat Stephen Strasburg, 2-1, for their eighth straight victory.

In Boston, Shane Victorino had a well-placed RBI single into a five-man infield in the 10th inning, lifting the Red Sox to a 2-1 win over the Rays.

Athletics left fielder Yoenis Cespedes was placed on the 15-day DL with a strained muscle in his left hand.

HOOPS: Celts lock up 7th spot in East with win

Courtney Lee scored 20 points and Jeff Green added 17 as the Celtics cruised to a 120-88 victory over the Magic in Boston.

The win locked up the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference for the Celtics, which likely means a first-round playoff meeting with the Knicks.

Trey Burke will have a news conference today at Michigan at which the Associated Press college basketball player of the year is expected to say he is skipping his last two seasons of college to enter the NBA Draft.

The University of Connecticut is set to break ground Tuesday for a $35 million basketball development center just days after its women’s team earned the record-tying eighth NCAA title.

NASCAR: Kyle Busch prevails in Texas

In Fort Worth, Texas, Kyle Busch took advantage of a late caution to regain the lead and held on for the final 16 laps after the last restart to win the Sprint Cup race at Texas, completing a NASCAR weekend sweep.

Busch followed Martin Truex Jr. for about 50 laps before a yellow flag for debris with 21 laps left. Busch took the lead off pit road during the caution and charged forward with a strong restart.

Joey Logano barely made the start of the race after prerace inspections turned up problems. He started at the back, but worked back to a fifth-place finish. Jimmie Johnson maintained his series points lead by finishing sixth.

SOCCER: Arsenal tops Norwich

Arsenal climbed to third in the Premier League by coming from behind to beat Norwich 3-1. Mikel Arteta leveled from the penalty spot in the 85th minute before Arsenal benefited from Sebastien Bassong’s own goal and Lukas Podolski’s late strike. Arsenal climbed a point above Chelsea and Tottenham into third. Chelsea has a game in hand.
