Take a load off, Christie

The Issue: NJ Gov. Chris Christie’s lap-band surgery, which he says he did for the sake of his family.

***

NJ Gov. Chris Christie had lap-band surgery (“Weight Is Over,” May 7).

We’ve seen this before. The once corpulent coach Rex Ryan now finds his skinny self mired in a gangrenous franchise. Al Roker traded in his jolly TV persona for a more measured, banal being.

Losing weight often sucks the humor and passion out. Jonah Hill thinks he’s a matinee idol now.

I’d hate to see Christie’s panache and personality shrink with his appetite. Let’s hope the governor can still throw his weight around come 2016.

God bless Christie, and I wish him well, regardless of his reasons.

I believe in my heart that his first and foremost concerns are for his family. As someone who has gone through quadruple bypass and the installation of a defibrillator, I can understand the governor’s concern for his health and what it means to his family. I saw him last week, and he did look thinner.

As for the many comments relevant to his aspirations to run for president, all the more power to him. That is a decision that he, his wife and family will make when the time comes. For now, I continue to wish him the best of health.
