Finally, an app that lets you rent out your toilet

Relief is here for those who don’t want to get caught short — an app that lets you find the nearest toilet for hire.

AirPnP is based on a similar process as popular holiday rental website Airbnb, but instead of cozy and quirky accommodation, here crapitalists can rent out their lavatories for desperate punters.

The golden idea is being tested at this year’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans and was inspired by the number of people who struggle to find somewhere to go at the event.

AirPnP’s website explains that “during the Mardi Gras they routinely experienced the pain point of having no place to legally urinate,” leading many to resort to public urination, which could land you a jail term or a hefty fine if caught.

This web-based app aims to clean up the streets and lets bathroom owners make some money in the process. Prices for the privilege range depending on the quality of the establishment, and users can leave reviews.

We found free places to pee up to swanky porcelain paradises that “Tom Cruise, Nicholas Cage, Frank Sinatra, and Walt Disney” have frequented, charging $3 or $10, depending on the nature of your visit.

So far, the number of listed toilets isn’t great and won’t have you covered worldwide just yet (there’s only one in Australia and zero in Africa), but there’s an abundance in New Orleans as well as a good offering in Europe.

While it might be a silly subject matter, it is a decent idea, and even if it sounds a bit mad that you have to pay for the pleasure, it’ll at least offer relief for the people who have to clean up places like Mardi Gras the next day.
