NFL: Bears deal Carimi to Bucs

The Bears said they have agreed to trade former first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi to the Buccaneers.

The team confirmed the deal, which is pending a physical. A person familiar with the situation said Tampa Bay is sending a sixth-round pick to Chicago.

The Outland Trophy winner as a senior at Wisconsin, the 6-foot-7 Carimi never quite lived up to expectations after the Bears took him with the 29th pick in the 2011 draft.

MLB: D’backs’ McCarthy on meds

Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon McCarthy is taking medication and says he’s confident he’ll be fine after he collapsed at a restaurant last week with a seizure related to the head injury he sustained while pitching last September.

AUTO: Johnson wins at Pocono

Jimmie Johnson absolutely dominated at Pocono Raceway for his third victory of the season.

Johnson, the Sprint Cup points leader, pulled away on both of the last two restarts over the final 10 laps to pull into Victory Lane at Pocono for the first time since he swept both races in 2004.

Greg Biffle was second and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Johnson’s teammate, was third. Dover winner Tony Stewart was fourth, followed by fellow Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Newman.

A volunteer track worker at the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix died after being run over by a crane removing a car from the course after the checkered flag.

“The recovery vehicle had lifted the car to return it to the pits and while doing this the worker dropped his radio and attempted to pick it up,” F1 spokesman Matteo Bonciani said. “As he did this, he stumbled and was hit and run over.”

Three-time defending champion Sebastian Vettel survived an early brush with a wall and late trouble in Turn 1 to win the race. Vettel’s Red Bull left from pole position and led almost the entire way to finish 14.4 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari.

NCAA: N.C. State goes distance

In Raleigh, N.C., Brett Williams doubled in Tarran Senay in the top of the 17th inning to help North Carolina State beat Rice 5-4 in the longest super regional game in NCAA history and put the Wolfpack (49-14) in their first College World Series since 1968.

In Nashville, Tenn., Jeff Thompson surrendered one run in seven strong innings in Louisville’s 2-1 victory over No. 2 overall seed Vanderbilt in a NCAA super regional, sending the Cardinals to the College World Series for the second time.

In Tallahassee, Fla., Sam Travis hit a tiebreaking two-run homer, and Indiana beat Florida State 11-6 to reach the College World Series for the first time in school history.

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Jordan Montgomery pitched a four-hit shutout, leading South Carolina past North Carolina 8-0 to force a decisive Game 3 in the NCAA super regionals.

In Charlottesville, Va., Mississippi State was leading No. 6 seed Virginia 5-3, six outs from the College World Series when rain forced the suspension of a game to be finished today.
