Woman loses leg getting into car

A woman lost her leg after a car plowed into her in a Bronx street this afternoon, witnesses said.

According to witnesses, the unidentified woman was trying to enter the driver’s side of her parked Silver Infiniti when a Volkswagen Jetta came down East Tremont Avenue near Scott Place at around 5 p.m. and swerved to avoid hitting a turning car but hit a black car that pinned her against her car, severing her leg.

”It was awful, the blood was gushing everywhere,” said witness Joanne Baker, 55. “The EMS came out and used the Jaws of Life to separate the two cars, as they did out of the bottom dropped her leg.”

Three people were transported to Jacobi Medical Center, two with serious injuries, fire officials said.

Witnesses said the driver stayed on scene.
