Prince shows off acting chops on ‘New Girl’

One way to recover from the bloodbath at Sunday’s Super Bowl was to enjoy the pleasures of Fox’s “New Girl.” In a special episode pegged to the conclusion of the game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, the artist known as Prince, who is a fan of the Liz Meriwether sitcom, came on the show to give some romantic advice to Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel. The advice was simple: tell Nick (Jake Johnson) that you love him, but Jess couldn’t quite bring herself to say it. Until almost the end of the episode.

“We wanted it to be the biggest, craziest, funniest episode ever — the most fun version of the show that we can present,” Meriwether told The Post. The producer had tried to book Prince for an episode last season but he was unavailable. When he was available, the music star called them.

“He approached us again and said, ‘No, seriously, I would love to be on the show, I’m a really big fan.’ At the same time, we learned we had gotten the Super Bowl episode. We felt like that was the perfect time to use him.”

Prince shot his scenes in two days at the Fox lot in Century City. In the episode, he performed a surprise duet with Zooey Deschanel and played ping-pong with actress Hannah Simone, who plays Jess’ girlfriend Cece. Prince is a very good ping-pong player and seemed surprised when Simone scored a point off him.
